Quantum Gate Engineer (f/m/d)
eleQtron develops and operates full-stack quantum computers based on trapped-ion technology. Quantum computing is a new computing paradigm rapidly approaching commercial viability. Our unique approach combines laser-cooled trapped ions with microwave control and tailored magnetic fields. Our next-generation computing machines under development will be able to find solutions to problems that are out of reach today, thus enabling new innovative products and services for a brighter future.
We are looking for a Quantum Gate Engineer (f/m/d).
Responsibilities:
As a Quantum Gate Engineer (f/m/d), you will analyze quantum gates for ion trap quantum computing platforms at the Hamiltonian level, focusing on systems utilizing microwave-based control. You will contribute to the theoretical development of high-fidelity quantum gates, optimizing operations within ion trap systems. This role is pivotal in advancing the state-of-the-art in scalable quantum computing using trapped ion technologies. Depending on your level of experience, you will work on one or more of the following tasks:
- Quantum Gate Analysis
- Model and analyze microwave-driven quantum gates in ion trap systems at the Hamiltonian level
- Investigate the effects of noise, decoherence, and motional modes on gate performance
- Develop and simulate protocols for improving gate fidelity and robustness within our experimental tolerance
- Microwave Control Optimization
- Design and optimize Hamiltonian engineering methods for microwave-driven quantum gates
- Develop advanced pulse sequences and modulation techniques for precise quantum state manipulation
- Explore crosstalk and stray field mitigation strategies
- Experimental Integration
- Work closely with experimental teams to implement and validate theoretical protocols on ion trap systems
- Research and Development
- Innovate and propose new methods for implementing and scaling quantum gates using microwave controls
- Contribute to publications and presentations showcasing advancements in ion trap quantum computing
- Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration
- Collaborate with hardware engineers, experimental physicists, and software developers to integrate gate designs into scalable quantum systems
- Provide mentorship and knowledge transfer to team members
Required skills:
- PhD in Physics, Quantum Computing, Applied Mathematics, or related fields (or demonstrated industrial experiences)
- Deep theoretical understanding of ion trap systems and microwave-driven quantum gate mechanisms
- Strong expertise in quantum mechanics and Hamiltonian-based modeling
- Hands-on experience with numerical simulation tools (e.g., Python, QuTiP)
- Familiarity with motional state dynamics and error sources in trapped ion systems
- Fluency in English with strong presentation skills
- Proactive and organized approach to managing projects
We Value:
- Experience with pulse-shaping techniques for microwave controls (e.g., GRAPE, optimal control theory)
- Knowledge of experimental ion trap systems, including microwave and RF hardware setups
- Proficiency with quantum software frameworks (e.g., Qiskit, Cirq, TKET) and system-specific libraries
