POSITION SUMMARY Assembles, inspects, and tests products according to established quality standards and department procedures. This is the entry-level Assembler position with limited or narrow experience/knowledge. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Reads work orders, follows production drawings and sample assemblies, and receives verbal instructions regarding the assembly of mechanical products. Positions and aligns parts in specified relationship to each other in jig, fixture, and other holding devices. Operates small hand and power tools to assemble products. Operates manual and electronic equipment to test and analyze assembled products. Installs finished assemblies or subassemblies in cases and cabinets. Crimps, screws, bolts, rivets, cements, press fits, and performs similar operations to join or secure parts in place. May be required to operate a forklift, pallet jack, or hand truck. Maintains a clean, well-organized and safe work area incorporating lean manufacturing techniques. Contributes to a flexible and productive team environment with active participation and suggestions for improvement. Regular and predictable attendance is required. Ability to adapt to variable work tasks from multiple departments. Responsive and flexible to changes in production demand and schedules. Remains open to and supportive of team ideas and management decisions. Displays cross-cultural sensitivity while working in a diverse employee population. Accepts constructive criticism and feedback, and responds in an appropriate manner.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Ability to read, write legibly, and process basic math as typically acquired through completion of high school or equivalent. Experience working in a team environment preferred. Experience with lean manufacturing preferred but not required.
LANGUAGE AND PEOPLE SKILLS Must be able to understand and follow both verbal and written instructions. Must be able to speak, read and write fluent English, writing skills are required. COMPUTER SKILLS Experience using computers, email, and the internet is preferred. PHYSICAL & MENTAL DEMANDS Ability to concentrate and focus on detailed information for long periods of time. Requires repetitive reviewing of numbers and other information and nearly mistake-free work performance. Regularly required to sit or stand, and use hands to manipulate small components. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, occasionally above the shoulders or below the knees. Frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and some assembler positions may be required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. WORK ENVIRONMENT Works in an open manufacturing environment. May be required to work on or around equipment that produces radiant heat. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, industrial chemicals and vibration. May be required to perform tasks using a fume extraction hood. Noise levels in the work environment is usually moderate, though the employee may occasionally be subject to higher noise levels. We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
