Quantum Research Manager

We seek a Senior Research Scientist with an outstanding track record in quantum computing to join IBM Research UK and to manage and develop a growing team of researchers. Experience with applications to quantum simulation and/or quantum chemistry is desirable.

The work location for this role is the IBM Hursley Lab near Winchester. IBM has a hybrid work model with 3 days onsite expected.

This job requires a highly collaborative approach, both with internal stakeholders and external collaborators where IBM has established research programmers.
The Quantum Research Manager is expected to publish and present their own high-impact results and to support their team with their publications.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise
  • PhD in quantum computing or a related field such as theoretical physics, computer science or applied mathematics
  • Experience of leading a research team to deliver strong scientific and technical accomplishments
  • Evidence of research impact with examples from quantum computing, quantum simulation, quantum algorithms, quantum information or related areas
  • A strong track record of publications
  • Strong client and relationship building skills
  • Strong leadership capabilities and ability to work in virtual teams


Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise
  • Experience with Qiskit
  • Experience with identifying and winning grant applications
