PhD in quantum information and metrology

IFIC and the Department of Theoretical Physics of the University of Valencia are offering a PhD contract to a well-qualified, highly motivated, young scientist with a keen interest in quantum science and technology.
The selected candidate will work with Manuel Gessner at the intersection of quantum information and metrology. Our work combines a broad range of topics from modern quantum science, including quantum metrology, quantum correlations, atomic quantum technology, quantum optics and imaging. The quantum information group comprises junior and senior researchers at IFIC and the Department of Theoretical Physics at UV. We participate in several joint efforts, including collaborations with other institutions in the Valencia region, the Quantum Spain project on quantum technology that coordinates European efforts at the national level, and with an extensive network of international collaborators.
The hired researcher will use methods from quantum information theory to identify fundamental quantum precision limits and their applications in quantum technology. Possible topics are the development of new tools for the characterization of the sensitivity of quantum states, the identification of quantum limits for superresolution imaging, characterization of atomic quantum simulators or the intersection between metrology and quantum machine learning.
The offered position is a “FPI” contract funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and has a duration of 4 years.
