We are seeking a Gates Test Stand Leader in our Broomfield, CO location.
Our team is leading the development of high-fidelity gates at Quantinuum. We are looking for an experienced experimental scientist to lead a team to investigate novel quantum gate schemes applicable to future Quantinuum commercial systems. The ideal candidate will have experience directing a team of scientists and engineers building and operating devices to manipulate trapped-ion qubits. They will have demonstrated intimate knowledge of entangling gates and experience developing detailed error budgets. They will also have excellent communication and collaboration skills demonstrated by a history of publications and presentations.
n- Lead a technical team to design, develop, verify, and deploy quantum gates using trapped ions as qubits.
- Benchmark gate performance
- Quantify gate error budgets
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to improve test stand subsystems
- Mentor junior team members on ion trapping and entangling gates
- You will perform design trade studies and analysis.
- You will present scientific results internally, at conferences, and in publications.
- You will develop project plans, schedules, and budgets to deliver high fidelity gates to commercial systems as part of a broader commercial strategy.
- PhD completed prior to starting
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience (PhD inclusive) involving one or more of the following areas: trapped ions, atomic physics, quantum information science
- Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person. defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status
- Experience leading a team in designing or operating a device for quantum information processing.
- Experience implementing trapped ion quantum logic gates.
- 5+ years’ experience with trapped-ion quantum information processing.
- 10 years’ experience in scientific research and development.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, and experience in working with customers and partners.
- Experience with laser cooling and trapping of ions or neutral atoms.
- Experience performing simulation and modeling to inform experiments.
- Experience quantifying precise error budgets.
- Experience with control systems for data collection, signal processing and analysis.
- Experience with laser systems, especially frequency-stabilized diode lasers, optical cavities, and phase or intensity feedback loops.
- Experience with cryogenic systems.
- Experience with ultra-high vacuum systems.
- Experience with electro-optic devices, including photodetectors and light modulators.
- Experience designing and testing micro-optical systems.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results within their field of research.
